26th July 2010 Brad Burton Does Actually Talk Sense. I got to work this morning and felt very demotivated. Rather than messing about on Facebook and Twitter for half an hour, I picked up Brad's book 'Get Off Your Arse' and started reading. Now. I have seen this book on sale for months at 4N meetings and thought 'yeah yeah' another motivational book, I'm not interested, but I bought it two weeks ago when Brad was at Wakefield. The reason I was feeling demotivated was because, I have found my niche area (social enterprise tax and accounts) and felt that there was so much to do, changing the website, setting up presentations, preparing support material, finding contacts and prospects etc etc. There just seemed too be far too much to do and I would never get any new leads. So, back to the book, he talks about Dicking around (which I was doing) and creating a to do list, which I created, 1) get a prospect list 2) draft a letter 3) print and send 5 letters 4) make 5 cold calls So far I have got up to number 3 and feel great. Just the feeling of getting to the stage of preparing the letter, putting the stamp on and posting it has made me realise, that yes, there is loads to do, but unless I get off my arse and get in the prospects, there is no point in the rest. I'm now tied between progressing on the to do list or finishing the book! |
